Amateur License/Upgrade Training

I would like to start some sort of video conference learning arrangement relating to amateur radio.

The first thing that I think of is helping amateur wannabes learn the tools of the trade for FCC licensing. I won’t be much help there with my limited amateur radio experience but there may be club members that will help here.

The second thing that I think of is training to help Technician class licensees to upgrade to General class. For this I have something to offer in the way of technical knowledge but I would want commitments from those participating. It’s a lot of work for me only to have amateurs start and then lose interest so I would envision some sort of payment to the club treasury of something on the order of fifty bucks. They get a full refund when they pass the FCC exam within one year but forfeit if they drop out for whatever reason but would be encouraged to donate their refund to the club. It makes a difference when there is skin in the game.

Also, I could offer very much knowledge for those General class licensees wishing to upgrade to Extra class. The Extra class license was the easiest of the three for me. I had to study diligently for a couple of weeks for the Technician’s license, then several days for the General, and a couple of hours for the Extra.

Any training that we do would be centered around the FCC pool questions and use ARRL publications. The pool questions would serve as a syllabus if you will on a curriculum.

Anyhow, I am just throwing out ideas for now. I am open to ideas from experienced amateurs who are much better equipped to formulate such social and training endeavors. Please leave your comments below.
