The FCC is proposing fees for any changes in licensing upgrades or renewals.
This is simply not justified; amateur radio provides communications in times of need at no cost. During times of emergencies such as tornadoes, natural disasters or hurricanes amateur radio always provides the needed services at no cost.
During the 911 disaster when all cell tower communications were gone only amateur radio communications were successful in passing traffic.
The amateur radio community has a long and very successful contribution to emergency communications in the United States. These fees will have an adverse effect on underprivileged people’s ability to join the amateur radio community. Going forward this may limit the number of amateur radio operators that are available for emergency communication.
Please contact your house or Senate member relaying your feelings that these fees are not justified.
