The year is 2022. We’ve seen 2021 out the door and have a new book, open to page one, to start writing the history of CARS for another year. What will the club do this year? Field Day? The Jackson County Fair? Other volunteer activities?
We all know CARS is about more than just playing radio, although we all like that. A club is about people, community and service. Otherwise, what’s the point? My sincere hope for the club is that we will show the public and other hams that the community of radio operators is about more than CW, FT8, and DMR. That we’re contributing and projecting a positive image of amateur radio.
I’m asking all of you, our club members to help think of activities that we can do as a group to benefit Jackson, MI. Not just CARS, but our city, county and community. I know we are all busy. I’m busier than ever. But I want to be busy doing the best things that I can be. Many of things can involve radio. Many of those can involve members of the club, our spouses and families. We just need to identify what those things are and get them going.
What CARS is and does, is up to all of us. As the club president I can help drive a great idea and bring it to the attention of the rest of the club. But at the end of the day, I can’t make things happen alone. All of you are the feet on the street, where the rubber meets the road, the tip of the spear (Ok, I’m out of analogies now). Ham radio and CARS have a rich tradition of service and involvement. Lets engage that like never before, in 2022.
Thanks and 73!
