About the Cascades Area Radio Society

The Cascades Amateur Radio Society serves Jackson County, Michigan, and the surrounding area helping amateurs, and those aspiring to become amateur radio operators licensed by the FCC.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Cascades Amateur Radio Society shall be to promote the exchange of information and encourage cooperation between it’s members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism and individual operating efficiency. To advance the general interest and welfare of Amateur Radio within the community through various programs and activities.

Club Meetings:
CARS normally meets on the Third Tuesday of the month at the Jackson County Health Dept. 1715 Lansing Ave. Meetings start at 6:45 with a meet and greet followed by our program for the evening. After the program we will hold our business meeting.

Board Meeting:
CARS holds a quarterly board meeting. The first board meeting of the year is normally in February. This in an open meeting and everyone is encouraged to join and participate. Please see the calendar for Details.

Eating Meeting:
Many CARS members get together on Friday evenings to enjoy each other’s company while dinning. Currently these gatherings are at Alpha Coney Island (Jackson Crossings Mall) in Jackson by 6:00 pm each Friday. Please check into the C.A.R.S. Thursday evening net to make a reservation and to verify location.

Also there is an “eat and meet” at Panera Bread at 10:00 AM every Monday. Many people arrive by 9:00–9:45 AM.

VE EXAM SESSIONS:
VE testing is offered several times during the year. The next sessions are Saturday, June 20 and August 15, Saturday, Contact Gary Schauffler, W8KM (email w8km_gary@yahoo.com) (517 789-8005) is the VE contact. Testing is normally done at the downtown Jackson (Carnegie) Library–the library opens at 9:30 AM and exams begin at 10:00 AM. The testing is normally administered in the McIntyre room on the top floor, SE corner. Gary reports the Library is going to a 4-Month Advance Schedule so stay tuned!
