{"id":475,"date":"2021-01-02T09:48:42","date_gmt":"2021-01-02T14:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w8jxn.org\/?page_id=475"},"modified":"2024-01-01T12:53:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T17:53:42","slug":"local-nets","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/w8jxn.org\/?page_id=475","title":{"rendered":"Local Nets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A &#8220;Net&#8221; is\u00a0 a group of radio operators sharing frequency that generally follow an established protocol to avoid talking over each other.\u00a0 Most nets utilize a network controller &#8220;net control,&#8221; whom volunteers to coordinate the various one to one communications between net controller and the net attendees.<\/p>\n<p>As with all nets, <em><strong>LISTEN<\/strong><\/em> first for any orders or other instructions before &#8216;checking in&#8217; to the net.\u00a0 Net control maintains the list and order of the net, per the context of the net and the whim of net control.\u00a0 Nets are held for various purposes and range greatly in their topic and precision in following it.<\/p>\n<p>Most nets are social in tone with a mix of new and seasoned operators and afford an opportunity to practice basic radio skills for new operators. Whether you&#8217;re seeking to &#8220;play radio&#8221; for entertainment or if you want to train to be able to communicate in emergencies; participating in local nets accomplishes both.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the list of nets that occur on repeaters that can be accessed from the local area.<\/p>\n<p>(Please email your additions and corrections for this list to: spraay@frontier.com)<\/p>\n<p><strong>W8JXN &#8211; CARS Net &#8211; Thursdays<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,\u00a0 8PM<\/span> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/w8jxn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/2-Meter-Script.pdf\">Updated Net Control Script<\/a><\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>The official weekly social net of the <strong>Cascades Area Radio Society<\/strong>. All amateur radio operators within the repeater\u2019s coverage area are encouraged to join in. Depending on who is net control, we might even have trivia question or other question for the group. This net consists of two rounds of all check-ins. <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/16YLYLpfGY2V3siT3J2Y8U36YHlVx91BkINI9mvPNxAk\/edit?usp=sharing\">Here is the net control schedule.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>W8JXN &#8211; Sunday 9:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is social net held each Sunday night at 9pm and is another great opportunity to &#8220;check in&#8221; with the rest of the local hams in Jackson County. Usually a shorter net with only one round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28.100 &#8211; CW Net &#8211; Sundays 8:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nThis net meets Sundays at 8pm at 28.100 MHz and is intended more so as a CW training net. Don\u2019t be afraid to key up and join in the action, It is common curtesy for the group to try their best to match your speed no matter how slow it may be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NCS sends &#8220;CQ CARS NET QNI? BK&#8221; which is your cue to check in. Net control will<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">answer you at the speed you are sending.<\/p>\n<p><strong>146.49 &#8211; Slow Scan Net &#8211; Wednesday 7:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nThis net is held every Wednesday evening at 7pm on simplex 146.490 MHz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>W8IRA &#8211; Noon Time Roundup &#8211; Monday, Wednesday, Friday Noon<\/strong><br \/>\nThis large net is held three times per week on the <a href=\"http:\/\/w8ira.org\/\">W8IRA<\/a> linked system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>W8IRA &#8211; IRA After Work &#8211; Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday 6:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nThis large net is held three times per week on the <a href=\"http:\/\/w8ira.org\/\">W8IRA<\/a> linked system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>W8IRA &#8211; VHF Traffic Net &#8211; Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nThis large net is held three times per week on the <a href=\"http:\/\/w8ira.org\/\">W8IRA<\/a> linked system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WD8IEL &#8211; 2-meter net each Tuesday at 8:30PM local time<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/wd8iel.com\/about-carc\/rules-governing-use-of-chelsea-amateur-radio-club-wd8iel-analog-c4fm-repeaters\/\">145.450 MHz pl 100 Hz in Chelsea. The repeater is located behind McDonalds at the water tower on M-52.<\/a><br \/>\nThe official weekly social net of the <strong>Chelsea Amateur Radio Club<\/strong>.
