Tim Crane WM8A, District 1 Emergency Coordinator, will be hosting an Emergency Communications awareness course as detailed below. I would highly encourage your participation, as I expect a lot of good material geared towards both newer and seasoned volunteers alike. As a one hour event, it obviously won’t cover everything you need to know, but it’s a great start.
On Saturday evening, January 9th 2021 Tim will be holding an interactive seminar from 8:00-9:00pm. This course is titled “Professionalism in EmComm, Preparing for Auxcomm“.
This is a course Tim developed as a video, but is going to introduce it as an interactive format to keep folks engaged. This is geared towards amateur radio public service but is applicable to all Auxcomm programs.
The awareness training will cover what standards are expected out of Auxcomms in appearance, conduct and overall professionalism. What subconscious or overlooked habits may have a negative impact on your relationships with served agencies. How our internal hobby language and lingo is inappropriate to use with public safety agencies and can instantly turn folks off. Subtle very minimal changes can strengthen and boost relationships with the agencies we provide services to!
Anyone can confirm attendance in the Michigan Auxcomm Facebook group or by emailing me. Once we decide what vendor to use (GoTo Meeting or Microsoft Teams) an invite will be sent out. The workshop will be recorded for later viewing.
Please feel free to invite your respective programs, districts or local groups. We’re trying this out as a pilot program. If it is received well Tim will hold these quarterly or, demand permitting, monthly. In 2019 we surveyed key operators across the state. Overwhelmingly (over 75%) said they wanted to see more training and development opportunities.
