W8JXN Repeater Operating Procedures and Information
- The W8JXN repeater is an open repeater and is available for all to use as they desire. Please use common courtesy at all times.
- ID requirements – FCC 47 CFR part 97.117 station identification. (a) Each amateur station, except a space station or telecommand station, must transmit its assigned call sign on its transmitting channel at the end of each communication, and at least every 10 minutes during a communication, for the purpose of clearly making the source of the transmissions from the station known to those receiving the transmissions.
- Monitor the repeater before attempting to access the system. This is just in case someone else is in the middle of a conversation.
- Don’t break into a QSO unless you have something to add. Interrupting is impolite and interrupting without an ID is considered malicious and unlawful interference. Don’t be a LID.
- When breaking into an ongoing conversion use a [““SINGLE” break for comment”], or your name [Buggs .. here!], or maybe the last few letters of your call followed by “with a comment or maybe just a “here””. Then wait to be recognized.
- Please use the minimum power required to access the repeater.
- Remember, there are many ears listening to this repeater so watch what is being said (language, subject, etc.).
- Please, DO NOT KERCHUNK. Please feel free to key-up the repeater anytime you like but ID when you do so.
- Do not quick key when responding to a transmission, wait for the courtesy tone and to allow anyone else to join in.
- IN CASE OF EMERGENCY – During an existing QSO, Key-up and announce “BREAK, BREAK, BREAK, Emergency traffic”. Pause for a second to make sure you have the repeater, then continue with your emergency traffic. If the repeater is quiet, give your call followed by “Emergency Traffic, any station”
